HAITIAN CHILDREN EDUCATION FUND

This fund was started in January of 2021 by Charlie & Cheri Dean. The fund's purpose is to provide annual support for children of Haiti for educational expenses. Grants will be made to Hosean International Ministries, a 501(c)(3) organization, that carries out the purposes of this fund.

Left to Right: Cheri Dean, Steven, Steff, Charlie Dean. This was taken in 2020. The Deans started sponsoring Steff in 2012. The other boy the Deans sponsor is Kenold. He is 27 and just started 10th grade. He was not able to start school until he was 24 and started in the 7th grade. His goal is to finish high school. There is no free school in Haiti so only about half of the children get to attend school and most only attend until 9th grade.

In 2010 Haiti suffered a large earthquake that greatly affected the Port au Prince area and thus the whole country. Cheri and Charlie Dean were burdened for the people of Haiti and decided to work with a local Haitian mission organization to provide aid to Haiti. After several trips to College de la Grace, Pignon, Haiti, with Hosean International Ministries, the Deans learned that education in Haiti is not free. They also learned that many children want to go to school but their parents just can’t afford it. The Haitian Children Education Fund will supply funding to Hosean International Ministries to provide scholarships so these children can attend College de la Grace, which offers 13 grades for children of all ages.

This fund is an endowment fund, so donations made to this fund will never be spent…instead they will be prudently invested by the Morton Community Foundation, and the proceeds from those investments will be used each year to provide scholarships for Haitian children to attend College de la Grace. An endowed gift of $8400 will provide enough revenue to pay the annual tuition of one student every year, for generations to come. Of course, donations of any size are greatly appreciated. The pooled gifts of many donors make a big impact. Click the button below to donate.

Hosean International Ministries (HIM Haiti) is a ministry by Haitians, for Haitians. HIM is designated as a 501(c)(3) by the US government and is also recognized as a non-profit, non-government organization (NGO) by Haitian authorities.  It began in 1984 by Haitian National, Caleb Lucien with one purpose in mind:  transform lives by pointing people to Jesus Christ through education, life skills training, and economic growth.  Over the past 28 years, HIM Haiti has grown to a staff of 150 Haitians working together with international partnerships from America, Brazil, and Canada to bring hope and real help to the people of Haiti.

HIM Haiti is passionate about investing in people.  By focusing on education, life skills training, and economic growth HIM Haiti is building the foundation to help Haitians have a healthy infrastructure to make wise choices for Christ.

Education – Education is not free in Haiti, whether provided by public or private school and many families cannot afford to send their children to school.  HIM Haiti is committed to helping every child receive the education they need to succeed in leading a healthy, well-rounded life.

Life Skills Training – In addition to helping provide basic needs, it is important to provide mental, spiritual, and social resources as well.

Economic Growth – To be successful in changing lives, HIM Haiti reaches beyond just providing basic needs for people in the community.  HIM Haiti is dedicated to creating jobs, teaching job skills, training leaders, empowering people and encouraging the entrepreneurial spirit.
